Stress can be an effective
motivator, but
only to a certain extent and in certain ways.
Certain situations, however, will usually
cause stress reaction. These ‘factors’
are at the heart of a new HSE management standard
HSE has conducted extensive research that
suggested as many as 1 in 5 people in the
working population were suffering from extreme
effects of stress.
From this they have developed a set of standards for employers to assess themselves against. The HSE is focusing on the following factors:
- Demands
- Control
- Support
- Relationships
- Role
- Change
For all of these factors
the HSE makes the same demands that at least
35% of employees indicate that they are able
to cope within the framework therefore systems
are put in place locally to respond to individual
needs.
